There's a Silver Lining.
One of the silver linings that I’ve found while navigating through these challenging times is finding meaningful ways to promote and support my local businesses, including other women-owned brands.
As you may already know, since my launch of BRA-serie, working with other women-owned businesses always been important to me, which is what inspired me to take my advocacy to another level and launch the WO3 movement.
I know this is not the "panacea" to solving the economic challenges that face us. However, it's my effort to find the silver lining among the grey clouds. Just as the Tanzanian proverb goes: "little by little, a little becomes a lot." I'm doing what I can -- even during this difficult time -- to help promote and generate awareness about other woman-owned brands. So, I’m thrilled to introduce y’all (in my southern drawl!) to the beautiful fashion designer Heidi Houston, located in Houston, Texas.
I don't know about you, but for me staying at home shouldn’t mean lying around in PJ's all day. I feel so much better when I take the time to dress in "real" clothes and put on some make-up! I’m totally loving my Audrey top with my Blue Scalloped BRA-serie.
Heidi’s collection features comfortable, colorful resort wear that makes you feel chic and pulled together, even if we’re spending most of our time at home. So if you're looking for a couple of things to freshen up your wardrobe, you'll love the Heidi Houston brand.

Tell us about your background, and why you decided to launch your own brand?
My background is actually in the medical field. I didn't really tap into my creative side until my 30's. After my boys were both in school, I slowly started this process. Finding fabrics, making patterns on my dining room table, having someone sew together my ideas … as I started seeing it all come together, I just decided to go for it, take a leap of faith, and create the brand Heidi Houston.
What inspires you to use such vibrant colors in your collections?
I am inspired by travel. My latest trip was to India, the colors are so vibrant and amazing. I love using pops of bright colors in all of my Spring/Summer collections. Summer should be bright & fun!
For that first-time buyer, what are your best sellers?
Right now my best sellers are The Audrey Top and the Katherine Caftan. These come in bright colors and are so fun for Spring. They’re colorful and easy to wear! The Audrey top looks so amazing with BRA-serie! (see photo above). I get stopped every time I wear them together.
As a woman-owned brand, what is one of the valuable lessons you’ve learned to stay passionate and inspired?
Stay with it. There are definitely hurdles and days where I say to myself, "Why the heck did I do this?" But that fades away and then amazing ideas and opportunities present themselves. Just like anything, some days are hard and some days are amazing. The point is to focus on the amazing times and strive for more of that!
